The challenge ahead
FDA's upcoming GRAS proposal, federal legislation, and state bills will reshape how every material that touches food — directly or indirectly — is approved. Even trace chemicals (<5 ppm) could disrupt entire product lines, forcing recalls, re-engineering, and millions in lost revenue. The current fragmented approach cannot withstand the regulatory headwinds ahead.
